The following is a transcript of a speech given by Doctor Lyndon Shobley at the “England, My England” conference hosted by the Roger Scruton Inheritance Foundation. The RSIF is not to be confused with the Roger Scruton Legacy Foundation. The latter was founded with the express consent and support of Scruton’s wife, Sophie, and has sought to uphold a rather conventional — and, some would say, erroneous —reading of the man’s work.
The RSIF, on the other hand, was founded by the West Bournemouth Social Democrat Party and in direct opposition to the wishes of the eminent philosopher’s widow, differing as it does on several points of interpretation of her late husband’s philosophy. The RSIF has worked also closely with Scruton’s alleged mistress, Moll, who has been an invaluable source of insight into the Philosopher’s private and intellectual life, as well as an absolute jewel at the clubhouse.
The reader need not concern himself with the minutia of theoretical differences which exist between the two societies. Let us just say that the division between them is akin to that between the Shia and the Sunni Muslims. I will not venture to say which is which.
